A robotic spacecraft launched in 2007 that became the first to orbit two extraterrestrial bodies - the asteroid Vesta from 2011-2012 and the dwarf planet Ceres from 2015 until its mission ended in 2018.

4 Vesta

A massive asteroid roughly 530km in diameter with a heavily cratered surface, featuring a gigantic impact basin at its south pole that exposed its internal structure and ejected numerous fragments that now form the Vesta family of asteroids.

Launched in 1985, Giotto became the first spacecraft to capture detailed images of a comet's nucleus during its historic flyby of Halley's Comet in 1986, passing within 596 kilometers of the comet's core.
